Our Heritage
Woven Through Generations: The R.F. Ederer Story

1881 : From the Great Lakes to the Gulf
In 1881, the R.J. Ederer Company began in Chicago, Illinois, manufacturing fishing nets for America’s growing maritime industries. With each generation, the Ederer name became more respected—known for understanding the evolving needs of fishermen from coast to coast.
1956 : A Southern Expansion
In 1956, Robert “Bob” Francis Ederer brought that legacy to the Gulf Coast, founding the Coastal Net and Twine Co. in Biloxi, Mississippi. As the first netting manufacturer in the South, Bob’s vision was clear: to serve the heart of the shrimping industry from Florida to Texas. “Biloxi is not only the heart of the shrimping industry,” Bob said, “it is practically in the geographical center of it.”

1969 : Resilience in the Face of Change
After challenges in the shrimping industry and a short relocation to Michigan, Bob Ederer and his family returned to the Coast, reaffirming their commitment to the region. In 1969, he founded what is now R.F. Ederer Company Inc., moving operations to Ocean Springs after Hurricane Camille reshaped the landscape—and his plans.
Five Generations. One Mission.
After Bob Ederer’s passing in 1989, leadership of R.F. Ederer Company was passed to his children, Mark R. Ederer and Laura Bolton. Under their guidance, the company continues to serve fishermen, commercial clients, and industries across the country. Today, R.F. Ederer stands as a testament to perseverance, craftsmanship, and the enduring strength of a family-run business — one that continues to grow while staying true to its roots.
